Real Estate ArticlesGeorgias Most Affordable Housing Market
Georgia is a beautifully lush state. From the beaches to the mountains, almost 10 million people call Georgia home. Georgia's popularity as a place to live, work and even retire is evident by its 18.3 percent growth from 2000 to 2010. There are over 4 million housing units in Georgia and approximately two-thirds are owner occupied. You may be thinking, wow, I need to move to Georgia. Before you pack up the car and head to the peach state, it may be a good idea to do some homework and find an affordable place to live. And in Georgia, there are several towns and cites that fit the bill. According to Coldwell Banker Real Estate's Home Listing Report issued earlier this year, Riverdale is clearly the most affordable housing market in the state. Riverdale's average list price for a four-bedroom, two bath home is an astonishing $61,618. Compare that price to another Atlanta suburb Dunwoody, at almost $380,000. Being 20 miles from Atlanta makes Riverdale an easy commute to a job in or near the city. Obviously, if budget is no consideration, you can find much more expensive homes around Atlanta. The average list price for a home in the Atlanta metro area is $255,000 with several areas much that are much more expensive. Riverdale is located on the South side of Atlanta, an easy commute on I-75 into the city and an even easier trip to Hartsfield airport. Riverdale, as with many other communities in Georgia, has suffered from the housing bust. The South side of Atlanta continues to struggle with foreclosures and lender-owned properties are keeping prices depressed. If a home in Riverdale interests you, keep in mind that average home prices are just that - averages. There are homes in Riverdale selling for $120,000 and others selling for as little as $15,000. It would be wise to do your homework and learn the area before jumping into the market.
